One year after we got Erba, we decided to get a male.  It was Amaranto di Selvaspina, called Rantje. He was much more affectionate to us than Erba was, but also much more suspicious of strangers. The first years he would absolutely not come when he was called by a stranger. When they tried to offer him a treat he would refuse it. Only when we gave him something he would accept it. He was a good guardian and became especially fierce to passing schoolkids on bikes. They did however tease and provoke him by throwing stones at him. 
Unfortunately in March 2003 he got an infection/tumor in his throat, that was not operable. He died much too young at the age of 8 1/2 years.
